Do you know how to install a high pole light?

Apr 08,2022

As the saying goes, "What is difficult won't be, and what is easy is not difficult." For high pole lights, the quality of the equipment will directly affect the overall performance of the high pole lights. Unlike Chinese lanterns, which are just some bent arms that can be easily fixed in order, there are certain aspects that must be paid attention to when installing high pole lights. Below, I will share some special details that require particular attention.

As the saying goes, "What is difficult won't be, what is easy will be difficult." For high pole lights, the quality of the equipment will directly affect the overall effectiveness of the high pole lights. Unlike Chinese lanterns, which are just some bent arms that can be easily fixed in order. So what aspects must we pay attention to when installing high pole lights? Let's share some special details that need particular attention.

Light source: The most commonly used light source for high pole lights is the high-pressure sodium lamp. Many advantages of high-pressure sodium lamps have been introduced in previous articles, so I won't elaborate on them here. Friends who understand lamps know that the starting current and voltage of sodium lamps are very high, so special attention must be paid during wiring, including at the terminal inside the lamp and at the connection between the auxiliary line and the main line. These two areas must be soldered. Some may say that soldering is too troublesome and unnecessary, and that just twisting the two wire ends tightly is enough. However, I want to say that those who make such statements are definitely an irresponsible team. Not soldering may seem fine temporarily, but over time, the twisted wires will have poor contact, gradually heat up, and eventually burn out. It is not an exaggeration to say that this wiring method has endless hidden dangers. Therefore, this point must be given special attention; whether installing LED lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps, soldering is fundamental and necessary.

Position: The most common shapes of high pole light lamp discs are two types: one is a 360° full circle, and the other is a 180° semicircle. There is nothing particularly concerning when installing a full circle lamp disc, but a semicircle lamp disc is different; not only during installation but also during manufacturing, special attention is required. First, we need to understand why semicircle lamp discs are designed as semicircles. This is not hard to understand; it is because the illumination angle has a certain positionality, allowing the light from the high pole light to shine only in a predetermined position. Now the problem arises: we know that high pole lights are made up of two or more pole sections connected together, which creates significant trouble for the directionality of the lamp disc because the main pole of high pole lights is usually 12-sided, with each side being about 8 cm wide. This means that if one side is misaligned by one face, it will be off by 8 cm, which can greatly deviate from the predetermined illumination angle; this is absolutely not allowed.

So is there a way to solve this problem? The answer is definitely yes; there must be a way. This is what we mentioned earlier as a core requirement that needs special attention. Solving this problem requires efforts from multiple aspects. First is the flange; generally, the screw holes of high pole light flanges are round. When manufacturing a semicircle lamp head for high pole lights, the hole spacing of the flange should be designed as elongated holes for clear purposes: to facilitate fine-tuning. If small positions are not correct, they can be adjusted by rotating the flange. Secondly, regarding the steel wire rope hook points on the lamp disc, these hook points are generally welded onto the lamp disc and cannot be adjusted arbitrarily. The semicircle lamp disc cannot remain stagnant; for better installation convenience, hook points need to have a small breakthrough idea to make them more rationalized—this means designing them to be movable so they can be adjusted freely; even if they are off by 30 cm, it won't matter.

When installing high pole lights with semicircular structure lamp discs, as long as you pay attention to the above points, installation can be completed smoothly and quickly, and most importantly, it can satisfy customer inspections.
