The development of domestic LED light sources started relatively late compared to foreign countries, and the technology level still lags behind international leaders. Although domestic LED light sources theoretically have a lifespan of 100,000 hours, issues with heat dissipation have not been completely resolved, significantly reducing their actual lifespan. The instability of power supply systems is a common consensus in the industry; in fact, it hinders the LED lighting industry because the driving power supply is a crucial component of LED streetlights, and its failure can lead to the failure of the entire lamp. Poor power supply reliability means that installed streetlights are likely to fail in a short time, which poses challenges for outdoor high-mounted devices like LED streetlights, making installation difficult and maintenance even harder. For streetlight manufacturers, an unstable power supply increases maintenance costs.
Maintenance issues. High-pressure sodium lamps are easy to maintain; the fixtures only need to be cleaned and do not require replacement, with the light source being replaced every four years, which is very convenient. In contrast, LED streetlights involve LED tubes, modules (including lenses), power supply devices, etc., with a higher likelihood of component and assembly damage, making maintenance difficult and often requiring complete replacement at a high cost. High prices: The price of LED streetlights is 2-5 times that of high-pressure sodium lamps. Even though the power consumption of LED streetlights is only half that of high-pressure sodium lamps, the much higher price means that the cost recovery period for replacing high-pressure sodium lamps with LEDs will still be long.
The color temperature issue of LED streetlights. High-power LED streetlights, as road lighting sources, can appear excessively cold or even eerie visually, which is not conducive to motor vehicle driving. The lifespan of LED streetlights is not high. The average lifespan of high-pressure sodium lamps is four years. There is currently no practical experience regarding the lifespan of LED streetlights; existing companies claim 50,000 hours but lack reliable evidence. This is due to the lifespan of capacitors in LED driving circuits being only about 10,000 hours.
High-power LED streetlights generally use white light with a color temperature around 5000K. As road lighting sources, they can feel excessively cold visually and may reduce observation ability when viewed from a distance. In this regard, users of streetlights have the most authority; yellow light or warm white light around 3000K is more suitable for road lighting. Therefore, daylight-colored LED streetlights are not suitable for use as streetlights.
LED streetlights lack unified technical standards in product specifications; there are no standardized production technical standards for LED streetlights yet. Each manufacturer produces its products according to its own standards, making it difficult for them to be interchangeable. Additionally, the fixtures produced by LED streetlight manufacturers form their own systems; the assembly of light source electrical components and fixtures are bundled together with different working characteristics that are hard to maintain. Maintenance must use original factory products.

Thus, LED streetlights will become the choice for energy-saving renovations in road lighting.
