The heat dissipation of LED street lights in Henan is one of the key issues that need to be addressed, as it directly relates to the luminous efficiency of LEDs during actual operation. Moreover, due to the high brightness requirements and significant heat generation of LED street lights, along with the harsh outdoor environment, poor heat dissipation can lead to rapid aging of LEDs and reduced stability. Outdoor road lighting fixtures should have a certain level of dust and water resistance (IP), but good IP protection often hinders the heat dissipation of LEDs. Solving these two conflicting yet essential issues is an important aspect that should be focused on during the design of road lighting fixtures. This is also where most non-compliance and unreasonable situations occur when applying LEDs in road lighting fixtures domestically.
(1) The LED street lights in Henan have adopted heat sinks, but the design of the terminal connections for the LED wiring and the heat sink cannot meet the requirements of IP45 or above, failing to comply with GB7000.5/IEC6598-2-3 standards.
(2) Ordinary road lighting fixture housings are used, with matrix-style LEDs on the light-emitting surface. Although this design can pass IP testing, the lack of ventilation inside the fixture can cause the internal temperature to rise to 50℃~80℃ during operation. At such high working conditions, it is impossible for the luminous efficiency of Henan LED street lights to be high, and the lifespan of LEDs will also be significantly compromised, leading to obvious unreasonable situations.
(3) An instrument fan is used inside the fixture to cool the LEDs and heat sink, with the air intake designed at the bottom of the fixture to prevent rainwater from entering, and the air outlet designed around the downward-facing LED light source. This design can effectively prevent rainwater from entering; additionally, if done well, this design can meet IP testing requirements.
